You Must Watch The Host!

Yesterday afternoon, I took a trip to the cinema to see The Host. Stephenie Meyer's 2008 book has finally been transformed into a film and it's definitely worth a watch! This romance sci-fi film is about the human race being taking over by extraterrestrial 'souls'. A human, Melanie, (played by Saoirse Ronan) is infused with a soul called Wanderer. The Host follows Wanderer's story and how the soul struggles to cope with Melanie's mind still active. Ultimately, Wanderer becomes overpowered by Melanie's emotions and memories of her human lover, Jared (played by Max Irons). They take on a quest together to find him and that's where the story unfolds.

What's good about it:
- Brilliant acting! The cast made the story really believable and emotional.
- The graphics and special effects were to really good standard.
- The story didn't seem too condensed or rushed, considering the previous version is a long and detailed novel.
- The plot behind The Host is fascinating, interesting and unique. I've never heard of a story like this before!
- It's not predictable. If you haven't read the book (like me) you'll have no idea how it's going to end. You'd never guess!
- There's some eye candy in The Host for us girls! Jared (Max Irons) is particularly gorgeous.

What's bad about it:
- There's slight blood and gore in parts of the film, which isn't too good for the squeamish.
-  I wish there was a sequel! Without spoiling the ending, The Host has the possibility to be continued into a second book and film.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Host! I definitely recommend it to romance and science-fiction fans. I'm sure all you Twihards out there will also love The Host. Now I'm going to read the book, which I'm definitely looking forward to! The Host

The Host is a science fiction and romance novel, written by the world famous author of The Twilight Saga, Stephenie Meyer. This book was released back in 2008, but the film version comes to cinemas next March. Take a look at the teaser trailer which was released recently...

Watching this video has really made me want to watch the film! However, I have never read the novel version of The Host even though I've owned it since 2009! I don't really know why - I just haven't got round to it. But I am definitely going to start reading now. If The Host is as good as Stephenie Meyer's other work, it's certainly worth a read. I absolutely love The Twilight Saga and have read all four books cover to cover, so it's about time I moved onto something different.

If you would like to know more about The Host's plot, here is what the blurb on my copy says:

"Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotion, the too-vivid memories. But she did not expect that Melanie would refuse no relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man she loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to seperate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love."

It sounds really complex but very gripping at the same time. I'm going to start reading this international bestseller and let you know how it is! If you'd rather watch the film first, then it's released in March 2013.
