Yesterday afternoon, I took a trip to the cinema to see The Host. Stephenie Meyer's 2008 book has finally been transformed into a film and it's definitely worth a watch! This romance sci-fi film is about the human race being taking over by extraterrestrial 'souls'. A human, Melanie, (played by Saoirse Ronan) is infused with a soul called Wanderer. The Host follows Wanderer's story and how the soul struggles to cope with Melanie's mind still active. Ultimately, Wanderer becomes overpowered by Melanie's emotions and memories of her human lover, Jared (played by Max Irons). They take on a quest together to find him and that's where the story unfolds.
What's good about it:
- Brilliant acting! The cast made the story really believable and emotional.
- The graphics and special effects were to really good standard.
- The story didn't seem too condensed or rushed, considering the previous version is a long and detailed novel.
- The plot behind The Host is fascinating, interesting and unique. I've never heard of a story like this before!
- It's not predictable. If you haven't read the book (like me) you'll have no idea how it's going to end. You'd never guess!
- There's some eye candy in The Host for us girls! Jared (Max Irons) is particularly gorgeous.
What's bad about it:
- There's slight blood and gore in parts of the film, which isn't too good for the squeamish.
- I wish there was a sequel! Without spoiling the ending, The Host has the possibility to be continued into a second book and film.
Overall, I really enjoyed The Host! I definitely recommend it to romance and science-fiction fans. I'm sure all you Twihards out there will also love The Host. Now I'm going to read the book, which I'm definitely looking forward to!
